Harvesting and Haulage
First, a tree is felled and trimmed using a mechanical harvester (chainsaws are rare these days). Second, a bulldozer or skidder takes the tree to a ‘log landing’ where the bark is removed. Finally, logs are sorted and graded before being placed on a truck for the journey to the timber mill. But there is more to it than this. The sector is also responsible for preparing and maintaining forests during harvesting and rejuvenating forests during and after harvesting.
