A national list of occupations has been developed by the Department of
Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. These include a number
of trades.

What is an Apprenticeship or Traineeship?
An apprenticeship is a structured program of usually 3-4 years that
combines on the job training under the supervision of a qualified tradesperson
with formal training provided by a Registered Training Organisation.
A traineeship is a structured program, of usually 1-3 years, which
combines supervised on the job training with formal training provided
by a Registered Training Organisation. Traineeships occur in non-trade
related areas and can be undertaken on a part-time or fulltime basis.
Traineeships can be undertaken by existing employees or new employees.
Why become an Apprentice or Trainee?
- Obtain a nationally
recognised qualification.
- Combine both on-the-job
and off-the-job training, so you earn while you learn.
- Develop valuable
work skills and experience.
- Benefit from the same industrial conditions
as other employees. This includes sick leave, holidays and other
benefits.
- May be entitled to NSW State Government and Australian
Government incentives and subsidies including rebates, allowances
and other concessions.
- Use the knowledge and skills gained in their
apprenticeship/ traineeship to enter other career pathways.
